Flocking Test

Flocking Test

I've been interested in flocking behaviour for a few years now, so when I saw that Modo 701 had flocking behaviours built in, I was keen to test them. I built a flocking system in Softimage ICE before by manually setting up relationships between particles using this paper:

The flocking in Modo seems pretty robust and does a lot of the manual work for you.

I've tried to simulate the movement of a shoal of fish with this simulation. The fish are attracted to the centre locator and are repelled by the moving one (predator). One thing that is missing from the Modo particle system is access to the nearest particle to a point in space. This would be very valuable so that I could set up the predator to automatically move after the shoal. Maybe in the next release...
